Biography
Harry Thatcher is a British baritone based in London. Recent engagements include Schaunard La bohème for Opera Holland Park, Escamillo Carmen for Scottish Opera (access performances) and jump-ins to sing the same role for Waterperry Opera Festival. In 2024 he will sing Riff West Side Story for the Gobierno de Aragon Lyric and Dance Festival and Silvio Pagliacci for OHP.
Other roles include John Brooke Little Women (Adamo) for OHP, Adonis Venus and Adonis (Blow) for Blackheath Halls and Figaro Le nozze di Figaro for Mid Wales Opera. For Grange Park Opera Harry has sung Bello La Fancuilla del West, Flemish deputy Don Carlo, Stárek Jenůfa and Schaunard La bohème. Harry was the baritone soloist for Scottish Opera’s Highlights tour in 2018 and sang Curio Giulio Cesare and Fiorello Il Barbiere di Sivilgia at Glyndebourne Festival Opera where he was a Jerwood Young Artist in 2019. Operatic roles and scenes for The Royal College of Music International Opera School include Il Conte Le nozze di Figaro, Ernest Priester Die Zauberflöte, Forester The Cunning Little Vixen, Taurquinius The Rape of Lucretia, Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Frank Die Fledermaus and the title role in Billy Budd. Harry covered the role of Death Savitri (Holst) and sang Spencer Coyle Owen Wingrave for British Youth Opera, winning the Basil A Turner prize for this performance.
On the concert platform Harry has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestra of Opera North at the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall. He has sung as a soloist in a wide range of oratorio from Handel’s Messiah to Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast and was shortlisted for the 2022 Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, reaching the quarter finals in Dublin. Harry is a graduate of the Royal College of Music International Opera School and has studied with Andrew Watts, Peter Savidge, Russell Smythe and, currently, Robert Dean. He was a Betty Brenner Scholar and supported by The Basil Coleman Opera Award, The Josephine Baker Trust, The John Clemence Trust, The Sybil Tutton Trust and The Countess of Munster.
